She was born October 9, 1939, in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of the late W. F. and Margaret nee Memmel Grathwohl. Joan's two great passions were talking and eating. She had the gift of being able to talk to anyone and always made everyone feel welcomed and included. If you were lucky enough to get a gentle punch in the arm from Joan, you knew you were loved. She was a lifelong learner, supportive, always interested and ready with a question. Joan was an elementary school teacher for 40 years and LOVED being a teacher. Working at Woodview Elementary in Bolingbrook, she was dedicated to her students and their success was paramount for her.
